2012-2013 Toledo Firebolts

This section introduces you to the athletes who have spent countless hours practicing, training and working hard to prepare for each tournament, match and demonstration. These athletes work to represent The University of Toledo FIRST, then the team, and lastly themselves.

What does playing Quidditch mean to you?

“Quidditch is that rare hobby that has meaning far beyond itself.  It is a sport founded upon a love of literacy and competition.  It means nerds and former athletes alike struggling and straining in an effort to conquer this new untamed sport.  It means getting up at the crack of dawn for training.  It means putting aside your misconceptions that it's simply another live action roleplay.  It means sweating in the summer sun and freezing in the snow and wind of winter.  Quidditch means a tightening of one's body and a broadening of one's mind.   It is a sport unlike any other and yet similar to many.  It is a game of triumph and agony, victory and defeat.  It is a game of simple athleticism surrounded by complex gameplay.  Quidditch is a sport for people without a sport.  It is a place, a home, for me.”

Graham Giles, Assistant Captain

“Quidditch is unlike any sport. Playing quidditch is a great way for me to stay active while also expressing my nerdy side. The community surrounding quidditch is fantastic and I have met some of my best friends through this sport. It means that I get to be part of a team again; I get to have fun, stay active and meet new people. Quidditch has brought out the best in me and I can't wait for another season!”
